Development firm Republic Property Group to complete 3.8-mile Laud Howell Parkway extension through McKinney

A road project connecting Laud Howell Parkway through north McKinney is set to be completed as part of the development of Wildwood, a master-planned community by North Texas real estate developer Republic Property Group. Work on the project phase that includes the road extension has begun, according to a Nov. 10 news release from the developer.

The gist

The roadway project will connect Laud Howell Parkway from Exit 43 of Central Expressway to Lake Forest Drive through north McKinney.

The 3.8-mile stretch of roadway will be built by the developers as part of the first phase of development for Wildwood, formerly known as the Honeycreek development.

The roadway is expected to become a regionally thoroughfare and will provide access for the 1,800-acre Wildwood development, which will include residential, commercial and office uses throughout a mixed-use community. Retail businesses that could join the development include grocers, restaurants and entertainment venues, the release states.

“Wildwood represents Republic Property Group’s commitment to innovative, people first development,” Republic Property Group co-CEO Jake Wagner said in the release. “We’re grateful to the city of McKinney, council and staff for their support as we work to bring much awaited access to north McKinney through infrastructure expansion and the Wildwood community.”

The roadway extension is expected to be completed in late 2027, the release states.

The context

The Wildwood development began through a partnership between Republic Property Group and the Jorba family, and in collaboration with the city of McKinney. The extension of the Laud Howell Parkway was considered by city officials more than 10 years ago, according to the release.

A municipal management district for the development was approved by city officials in 2024, which is the first of its kind approved for the city. The special district will manage infrastructure, parks and public amenities within the development, the release states. City documents show that the project could include more than 10,000 homes, including both single-family and multifamily residences.

The developer, Republic Property Group, has also completed a number of other North Texas projects, including the Light Farms community in Celina, the Walsh development in Fort Worth and the Phillips Creek Ranch community in Frisco, according to its website. The company also played a role in the development of McKinney’s Stonebridge Ranch, its website states.
